What comes into your mind when you hear the word “creativity”?
10 minutes:
Share thoughts on creativity.

Make a web of all the facets of “creativity” - what it encompasses.
(Incorporate all the creativity buzz words: originality, invention,
innovation, free play.)
Discussion:
1. Can you be creative without a purpose?
2. Are all things creative of value? What makes “value”?
3. Can you be creative without materials?
4. What is the difference between imagination and creativity?
Write your definition of creativity to include the concepts discussed.
Leave it open, as you may want to add to it or change it as the week
progresses.
Activity Two:
Torrance test of creativity :
10 minutes per drawing.
Using a pencil, perform the drawing to complete the four shapes. Take
your time deciding what to draw. The first ideas are more common.
Stretch your mind to think of something no one else will think of.
Your drawing skills are not going to be criticized.
20 minutes.
Share your drawing and the thought process which went into deciding
what to represent.
Short Break. 15 minutes.
Workshop:
Playing around with cutting paper and pasting to make a personality
collage.
Trace your silhouette and cut it out of paper (12x18).
Browse through magazines and tear out at least 20 pages which appeal to
you as important to your character, interests, career, thought
processes.
you will be making an inside-outside self portrait, using these images
and your silhouette.
what are the images you need to use in the background? which images
are part of your inner life?
What do you wish you had else? Can you draw it in?
Will words (either ones you find or ones you draw in) add to the
collage?
Paste everything onto the background to complete your self-portrait and
present it Wednesday to the class. Be ready to talk about the process
and how you made your decisions.
Homework:
Reacquaint yourself with the district’s Lesson and Unit planning
process. Take time to reread about Understanding by Design concepts.

resources, and also check out all the web resources available.
We will be looking with new eyes at our lessons and units to see how we
can incorporate principles of Creativity into them.
