Is it this way for you?
The Creative Process
The process is not linear. There are several circular stages in the creative process.
The Ingredients
Creativity begins in the physical world. An idea originates from some trigger based on something we’ve seen heard, tasted, experienced.
Stirring the soup
This has been called the “Preparation stage”.
Our brain mulls over the thought or ideation.
Next comes a synthesis. During this stage there is a marriage made between what is known and what to date has been unknown. We “look new” and ‘think new’.
Our brain wants to justify our idea and validates it before it allows us to produce the outward manifestation.
Production
Next the creative product is manufactured.
During its manufacture, critical analysis of the procedure and the analysis of accidental occurrences oftentimes require further review of the previous steps, or backing up to a previous step to begin the process again.
Sometimes there are “happy accidents”. Sometimes we get a flash or revelation which adds to the original concept.
During the production, our critical faculties judge the suitability and aptness of the product. Sometimes we accept a product which is not completely aesthetically satisfying because of its other qualities, such as newness or invention. Sometimes we justify it saying “we can do better” next time.
After the production comes the critique
The better we get at being self-critical, the higher we strive to produce a better product.
